How do Alternative Language Learners cope with the digital classroom?

Whether it's called the Internet or the Web, online or web-based, synchronous or real-time, foreign language learners deal with all sorts of issues when it comes to the greatest medium for education.

There are many peer-reviewed studies in educational journals which investigate a variety of concerns for those not only learning a second language, but for those who are designing and facilitating learning spaces for these alternative language learners. This site was created to bring such research to light and to provide an analysis of the theme with regard to the ten studies highlighted.


Discoveries

Teaching a second language online raises a number of concerns and issues.  How do we teach the subtleties of a foreign culture and language through non-visual computer-mediated communication?  In other words, how do educators teach communication without personal or visual interaction?
